This is something I’ve been doing for years, not really realizing that other people might find it useful. I whipped up a hot chocolate one night so that my friend could try the surprise hot chocolate ornament. She was staring at me because I had just made her a mug of hot chocolate from scratch in 5 minutes, and told me I needed to share this on my blog.
It’s not something that really has a recipe, because all the ingredients can be adjusted to one’s preferences. If you like really sweet hot cocoa, add more sugar. If you like it really thick and creamy, add more cream and chocolate. I just eyeball it (like you would with the sugar and cream in your coffee), and that makes it even faster to make.
I do realize that some people feel lost without a recipe, especially when it’s their first time making something. I’ve provided estimated measurements of a single mug hot chocolate below, but you really don’t need it! Just sure to follow the steps in order (do not throw everything in at once and microwave).
***This recipe makes really good ice hot chocolate. After the milk is poured, mix very well and pour over ice!
Single Serving 5 Minute Hot Chocolate From Scratch

- Add chocolate and stir until completely melted
